Tokens

Create access tokens to read variables from your apps.

What is a token?

A token is a UUID credential that authorises external read access to one or more variables. Tokens are scoped per organisation and can be restricted to a specific set of variables.

Tokens grant read-only access. They cannot be used to create, update, or delete variables.

Creating a token

  1. Go to Variables -> Tokens in the Dashboard.
  2. Click New token.
  3. Enter a name (slug format, e.g. my-app-prod).
  4. Choose which variables the token can access:
    • All variables — the token can read any variable in the organisation.
    • Specific variables — select individual variables from the list.
  5. Click Create.

Rotating a token

Rotation replaces the token string while preserving its name and permissions. The old string is immediately invalidated.

  1. Open the token's options menu (...).
  2. Click Rotate.
  3. Copy the new token string.

Revoking a token

Revoking permanently deletes the token. Any requests using that token will receive a 401 Unauthorized response.

  1. Open the token's options menu (...).
  2. Click Revoke.
  3. Confirm the action.

Using a token

Pass the token as a query parameter when calling the Variables API:

curl "https://variables.flowtagservices.com/v1/value/YOUR_VARIABLE_ID?token=YOUR_TOKEN"
