Flowtag Docs

Overview

Manage feature flags and remote config values across your apps.

What are variables?

Variables are named configuration values hosted by Flowtag and fetched by your apps at runtime. Instead of re-deploying to change a feature flag or a config value, you update it in the Dashboard and your app picks it up on the next read.

Variables are served by our fast infrastructure, giving you 115 ms average TTFB across Europe and America.

Variable types

TypeDescriptionExample value
toggleA boolean feature flag.true / false
jsonAny structured JSON value.{ "limit": 100, "enabled": true }

Creating a variable

  1. In the Dashboard, go to Variables and click New variable.
  2. Enter a key (slug format, e.g. show-banner).
  3. Select the type — toggle or json.
  4. Set the initial value.
  5. Click Create.

Example

Fetch a variable from your app using its ID and an access token:

const res = await fetch(
  `https://variables.flowtagservices.com/v1/value/YOUR_VARIABLE_ID?token=YOUR_TOKEN`
);
const variable = await res.json();

For a toggle:

if (variable.value === true) {
  // feature is enabled
}

For a JSON variable:

const config = variable.value;
// e.g. { "limit": 100, "enabled": true }

The easiest way to read variables is via the SDK. See the SDK Introduction.

Access control

Variables are private by default. You must create an access token to read a variable from outside the Dashboard. See Tokens.
